(Watch 6-minute excerpt) At church, Jesse talked a little about the Charlotte riots after the police shooting of Keith Scott, a black man with a violent criminal past who allegedly would not put down a gun when police confronted him. Why do media and politicians give such attention to police shootings of blacks, when the majority of the time the blacks are armed or threatening police or others? Jesse shared context from researcher Heather Mac Donald. Jesse also asked where the preachers were in denouncing the evil riots. Bishop T.D. Jakes of The Potter’s House megachurch in Dallas sided with the angry black people, rather than denouncing anger.
Then a man asked Jesse about his trouble in really repenting and turning to God completely. Jesse eventually answered after a discussion around the question, “Are you an idiot?” Some in the congregation said yes, at times, and some said no. Jesse said that an idiot is someone who abandons his quest thinking that he knows. The first man asked about Jesus saying and doing nothing but what the Father told him. Jesse told him he must let go of everything he thinks he knows, in order to turn back to God. Jesse had a few people read passages from the Bible that show that the word of God is in our mouth and hearts, that we do not need to look outside ourselves for the truth, because God put it within us.
